Charlotte Baby Makes International News Charlotte baby makes international news - the small miracle gets big press
Over Easter weekend thousands of people found inspiration and hope from the story of Chris and Melodie Biblis, a story that has reached across state and international borders.
Nearly 23 years ago, Chris Biblis was a teenager fighting leukemia, when doctors told him that his cancer treatments could leave him sterile. His mother made the suggestion to freeze his sperm.
More than two decades later, Chris’ sperm became among the oldest on medical record to produce a healthy child, when his daughter Stella was born February 25.
According to the couple’s physician, REACH’s Dr. Richard L. Wing "they achieved pregnancy on their first cycle of intracytoplasmic sperm injection used in conjunction with IVF, a now-routine procedure for male infertility, using her eggs and his thawed sperm."
The Biblis’ uplifting and courageous journey quickly made its way through the press in the United States, from the Charlotte Observer, Good Morning America, ABC World News and the London Times.
For most of his teen years when battling leukemia Chris said he was “just dreaming of making it through the next day, not ever making it through and getting married or even having a family.”

Congrats to Dr. Richard Wing, Dr. Daniel Whitesides, and Dr. Nancy Teaff

These three REACH physicians were named Charlotte Magazine’s “Top Doctors” in the July 2010 issue. This annual peer-recommended roster of 276 physicians in 60 specialties is among the highest acknowledgement for any physician. Charlotte Magazine asked local physicians whom they would send their loved ones to if they were in need of medical attention. Congratulations Drs. Wing, Whitesides, and Teaff!
